Do you realize that avoiding carbs is “clean” eating? Do you think anything with bread or flour in it is junk food? Should sugar be avoided at all costs? If so, we need to intervene. Carbohydrates – including sugar – are actually good. And when it comes to health and fitness, avoiding them can do more harm than good.
To find out how many carbs you’re actually getting, any nutrition app (like Chronometer, which is free) can keep track of how many grams of carbs you get throughout the day. If you use an AI-based tool, like the chatbots built into many wearable apps these days, be sure to double-check the actual food label to make sure it’s tracking the grams of carbs correctly.
Don’t confuse a low-carb diet with a healthy diet.
As I did Often saidThe things we do to lose weight are not the things that make us healthy. You can lose weight on a low-carb diet, and that’s okay. But that doesn’t mean cutting out carbs will make you healthier. In general.
And in fact, allowing yourself more carbs can improve many of the downsides of dieting. The fact is that Both low-carb and high-carb diets can work for weight loss. This does not mean that they are equal in every way. People who eat more carbohydrates are less fatigued during exercise and are more flexible about their diet, whether or not they’re trying to lose weight.
Carbohydrates include sugar, starch, and fiber.
Before we dive deeper into this topic, let’s talk about what carbohydrates are. Everything we eat can be classified as fat (including oil), protein, or carbohydrate. Carbohydrates, or carbohydrates, include:
thanksincluding table sugar, glucose, and fructose. Sugars are found naturally in fruits, vegetables and milk.
Starchwhich plants use as a form of carbohydrate storage. White bread and white rice are examples of foods that are high in starch.
FiberWhich our body cannot fully digest. Various types of fiber are found in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes.
You may hear about “complex” carbs. According to biochemists, both starch and fiber are complex carbohydrates. But the term has been misused to mean “foods with fiber,” such as fruits and whole grains. White bread is full of complex carbohydrates, so don’t take this distinction too literally.
The important thing to remember is that both sugars and starches can be broken down to produce energy quickly enough for our bodies. Fiber slows this process, but so do fats and proteins. So if you need a quick energy boost when you’re in the middle of a run, you may prefer sugars or starches. If you want a complete meal that you can digest over time, giving you all its health benefits, foods with fiber, protein, and fat are good for you—but these foods can also contain sugars and starches.
Sugar is not a poison or poison.
Adding too much sugar to your diet is not good. This is very true. And most Americans do it Add too much sugar to our diet, more than our bodies can properly use. I am not endorsing this abuse. (Most of us would probably be better off if we at least cut back. something of this sugar.).
But I am saying we need to pay attention. why Too much sugar is bad, and don’t overreact by demonizing sugar or saying it’s poison, it’s toxic, and needs to be eliminated. There is absolutely no reason to believe these myths. Too much Sugar is bad for us Because sugar is a dense source of “empty” calories.. But our bodies can handle moderate amounts of sugar just fine.
And if you’re an athlete—even a recreational one, someone who likes to run and lift—you may find that simple carbohydrates like sugar help fuel your workouts. This, in turn, allows you to get a more quality workout. Take marathoners as an example: sucking on packet after packet of sugar gel is not natural or normal. But no one is running at a constant speed of 26.2 miles without stopping. One fuels the other.. Even if you want to argue about what humans have done, you need to come to terms with that fact. Hunters eat a lot of honey..
Carbohydrates can reduce fatigue before and during exercise (and maybe even in your daily life).
If you’ve ever felt sluggish during a long workout, you can chalk it up to exercise. But people who are either dieting or choosing to eat “clean” may feel that way because they lack carbohydrates.
What do you think so far?
I say this in part based on research that has shown fuel to make a huge difference for endurance athletes, like in my example above about marathoners. That much is scientifically proven.
The second part is the largely anecdotal, but strongly supported anecdotal observation that people who eat carbohydrates before their workouts feel more energized during those workouts. That’s why if you want to avoid caffeine, the best steam-free pre-workout, It’s called eating a damn breakfast.. If you are doing Fasted Cardioor you’ve been eating keto all day and then trying to grind your teeth through exercise when you’re tired, try eating some carbs before your workout. You will feel a world of difference.
And it’s not just physical performance. Research also shows that eating a low-carb diet May interfere with cognitive functions such as memory and attention.. Your body can. Received by on a low-carbohydrate diet, but performs best when carbohydrate is available.
Eating carbohydrates gives you more flexibility in your diet.
A big part of the reason low-carb diets are so effective for weight loss is that it’s hard to avoid carbs when you’re eating out or grabbing a quick snack on the road. Most processed food products contain carbohydrates, but so do most home-cooked meals, unless you’re specifically preparing them without carbohydrates.
As a result, you don’t have as much to eat when you’re following a strict low-carb diet, and that’s a big part of why it’s so easy to restrict your calories. But remember that if you cut out carbs, you’ll be missing out on many healthy foods, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which contain plenty of vitamins and other nutrients that a healthy diet needs. This is real It’s hard to eat fiber if you’re also skipping starches and sugars.
More carbs means you don’t need more protein.
Getting enough protein is important, and I don’t just mean hitting the minimum limit of the RDA.. If you exercise, you want more protein, and if you’re trying to lose weight, you will. Even more than that Protein, to give a few general reasons why it is good to include protein in your diet.
Carbohydrates actually help you do this. Carbohydrates are considered “protein sparing,” meaning that if you get enough carbohydrates in your diet, your body is less interested in breaking down protein to burn it for energy. Or to put it another way: on a low-carb diet, some of the protein you eat is wasted, simply because your body needs it. something A type of fuel for energy, and its preferred source is not carbohydrates. So if you’re having trouble getting enough protein in your diet, making sure you have plenty of carbohydrates will help keep you going.
