‘The Odyssey’ Is Throwing AMC Theaters’ App and Site Into Chaos Today

If you tried to access the AMC Theaters website or app for whatever reason this afternoon, you may have found yourself standing in line. Maybe you’re still in line. Whether you’re trying to buy tickets, check current reservations, or check future show times, AMC is making you wait in line. Why? Because of The OdysseyAbsolutely.

AMC Theaters services are currently in chaos.

Christopher Nolan movie tickets The Odyssey Today went on sale, and it threw AMC’s operations into chaos. If your goal was to get a ticket, I wish you the best as far as wait times. Hit for an hour during peak traffic today. Anyone who’s tried to buy advance tickets to anything that’s particularly hyped—whether it’s a movie or a concert—knows how cut-through it can be (and how brutal those website lines are). Errors and delays are par for the course.

If customers are trying to buy tickets, it makes sense for them to wait in line. The Odyssey. But, for some reason, AMC is making the rest of us wait in line too, no matter what we’re accessing the site for. I opened the app this afternoon to cancel one of my evening reservations, but found myself in line to do so. It was only after a quick Google search that I realized why AMC was acting so strange.

However, AMC does not make this clear on its site or app. You are left in a queue with only an ETA and a loading bar. And once you’re “in,” you’re presented with the app’s home page. I assumed AMC would plop you into a page first. The Odysseybut no: I had to go find this movie myself. (Well I got tickets, so I guess I’m waiting in line.)

What do you think so far?

Getting around the AMC queue

If you’re literally trying to do anything besides buy tickets to Christopher Nolan’s next movie, you’ll just have to wait in line. Eventually, you’ll get over it, and you’ll be able to use the app as you normally would. (I was able to cancel my reservation just fine.) If you’re trying to get an existing ticket for a theater show, you might want to check your email for that, as it’s faster than waiting in line, or asking a theater representative to cancel the reservation. (Though who knows what AMC’s internal systems are like right now.)
