Samsung adds much needed brightness to its Freestyle projector

The Freestyle Plus all-in-one portable projector has 430 ISO lumens, or “almost twice the brightness of the previous generation,” According to Samsung. Very nice! But it’s also a bit odd since both the original and second-generation Freestyle projectors listed “550 lumens” on their respective sheets.

See, projector manufacturers are notorious for playing fast and loose with lumens. So much so that Epson has been on a legal spree for the past few years. As a result, companies like anchorfor , for , for , for , . Ybarfor , for , for , for , . AAXAxgimi, AWOL vision… even Dr. J All have been forced to reset the brightness measurement to the industry standard ISO lumens. This is good because assuming constant lumens makes it easier to predict how the projected image will hold up to ambient light that tends to ruin the viewing experience.

The Freestyle Plus still looks and functions very much like the original 1080p Freestyle projector that launched in 2022, retaining its rotating barrel design, integrated speakers, and the ability to stream your favorite services over Wi-Fi. It now comes with automatic adaptation features common to modern portables, including keystone correction, focus, screen fit, and the ability to calibrate the image based on the color and patterns of walls and ceilings. It still lacks a battery, though it can be paired with some power banks for maximum portability.

Samsung isn’t giving any detailed specs, pre-order dates, or even pricing ahead of the Big CES show. We priced the original at $99,899, and that was in a pre-Trump world.
