Bhopal: The state capital reported one-fifth of all dengue and chikungunya cases for this year in the last seven days. On Monday, 21 cases of mosquito-borne diseases were diagnosed, marking one of the highest single-day case counts for this year.

According to the health department, 14 people were diagnosed with dengue, while seven individuals were confirmed to have chikungunya. In Oct, 25% of those suspected of chikungunya tested positive, while the dengue positivity rate is 18%.

On Monday new cases were reported from Danish Nagar, Kunjan Nagar, Saket Nagar, Barkheda Pathani, Bharati Nikentan, Kamla Nagar, Nehru Nagar, South TT Nagar, Katara Hills, Emerald Park Street.

The total number of dengue cases this year has surpassed 420, while chikungunya cases have reached 131.

Health authorities have reported an increase in both diseases, which are spread by the Aedes mosquito. Measures are being implemented to control the mosquito population and reduce the spread of these diseases.

Health officials are urging residents to take preventive actions. Steps include eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed and using insect repellents.

“The rise in cases is concerning, and we need the community’s cooperation to tackle the issue,” health officials advised.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) health wing staff, along with the malaria department team, conducted a comprehensive investigation for dengue larvae in several areas, including Saket Nagar 2C, Vishwakarma Nagar, Panchsheel Nagar, BDA Colony, Khajurikalan, and Avadhpuri, on Monday. They sprayed insecticides extensively and performed fogging in various locations.

The BMC staff undertook the task of getting carrot grass cut and cleaned from main roads and other places while also spraying insecticides to prevent the spread of dengue.

Residents were advised to regularly change the water in tanks, earthen pots, coolers, flowerpots, and other vessels. Special attention to cleanliness was emphasized.

“If dengue larvae are found, spot fine action will be taken,” BMC staff warned.
