MLA Seeks ₹50 Crore Funding for JK Cancer Hospital to Enhance Patient Care, ET HealthWorld

Kanpur: The MLA of Govind Nagar Assembly constituency Surendra Maithani on Wednesday met CM Yogi Adityanath at his Lucknow residence and appealed to him to provide a minimum of Rs 50 crore for purchasing modern equipment for JK Cancer Hospital in Kanpur.

The hospital is facing difficulties in treating patients with serious illnesses like cancer due to a shortage of equipment despite having a dedicated team of expert doctors and nursing staff.

The increasing number of patients has put a strain on the hospital’s resources which each month serves over 7,500 cancer patients in OPD and caters to patients from 45 districts, including Kanpur Bundelkhand, half of Uttar Pradesh and parts of western Uttar Pradesh. Under the CM’s leadership, the hospital gained significant trust due to improvements in healthcare services, providing life-saving treatments at minimal costs, such as radiation therapy for just Rs 31, making it accessible for even the poorest patients.

The MLA informed the Chief Minister that JK Cancer Hospital is a crucial medical centre for underprivileged cancer patients from Kanpur and over 45 surrounding districts, providing round-the-clock emergency services. However, the shortage of essential equipment created obstacles in patient care, causing worry among families as the number of patients continues to increase. The MLA stressed the importance of further developing the hospital by incorporating modern medical facilities to help the underprivileged fight this severe disease.

Maithani requested the CM to provide the following equipment to be purchased with about Rs 50 crore, including “High-End Linear Accelerator” which will offer high-quality radiotherapy services with appropriate photon and electron energy, treatment planning systems, and verification systems, improving the treatment process, addressing the 30% customs duty and clearance charges for importing these devices to ensure timely availability, Dosimetry Equipment, including beam scanners and analysers to ensure treatment quality.

The MLA urged the Chief Minister to expedite the provision of these devices which would cost Rs 50 crore to ensure proper and timely treatment for patients at JK Cancer Hospital. The MLA said that the CM responded positively to his request, assuring him that necessary equipment would be made available at the hospital soon.
