New Delhi: AIIMS New Delhi has taken a pioneering step in integrating cutting-edge technologies into healthcare by hosting an intensive workshop on emerging technologies, specifically focusing on artificial intelligence (AI). With AI projected to revolutionise the healthcare sector in India, the workshop aimed to equip medicos with the necessary skills and knowledge to leverage AI’s transformative power.

The Indian market for AI in healthcare is set to reach $1.6 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40.5 per cent. Key applications such as personalised medicine, telemedicine, drug discovery, and advanced diagnostics are expected to drive this growth. AIIMS Delhi, recognised as a centre of excellence in AI, is at the forefront of this technological evolution, addressing public health challenges and promoting the integration of AI in healthcare practices.

Prof Kanwal Preet Kochhar, AIIMS New Delhi, expressed her enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “We are thrilled to have organised this workshop that brings together leading minds in the field of AI and healthcare. Our goal is to empower our medicos with the skills and knowledge they need to harness AI technologies effectively. By focusing on practical applications and real-world challenges, we are preparing our future healthcare leaders to innovate and improve patient outcomes significantly.”

Dr Swadeep Srivastav, Founder and CBO, Healthpresso, highlighted the transformative potential of AI in healthcare, said, “AI represents a paradigm shift in how we approach healthcare delivery. It offers us the ability to analyse vast datasets, uncover hidden patterns, and make informed decisions that enhance patient care. However, with this power comes responsibility. We must ensure that AI is deployed ethically and equitably, addressing biases and privacy concerns to truly benefit society. Healthpresso is dedicated to supporting this transition by providing resources and expertise to healthcare providers.”

Sonia Dosanjh, Scientist F, C-DAC, Mohali, highlighted the importance of technological interventions in healthcare, said, “Exploring technological innovations is crucial to addressing the unique health challenges we face today. AI offers unprecedented opportunities in data-driven decision-making, disease surveillance, and personalised treatment plans. This workshop is a step towards harnessing these opportunities.”

Daleep Manhas, Co-founder and CEO, Healthpresso, shared his insights on the future of healthcare, saying, “AI is reshaping the entire healthcare landscape, from early diagnostics and virtual consultations to chronic disease management and patient education. Our upcoming AI tool is a Healthcare Communication GPT, which is designed to create quick, up-to-date and most importantly, credible health content for healthcare providers and health consumers.”

The workshop underscored the need for specialised AI applications in healthcare, such as the development of a Health GPT, which would provide tailored solutions by leveraging healthcare-specific data. The participants gained hands-on experience and insights from leading experts, preparing them to contribute significantly to the transformation of healthcare in India.
