New Delhi: AIIMS New Delhi has been designated an AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) by the Government of India in recognition of its contributions to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the healthcare sector.
In collaboration with Wadhwani AI and MoHFW, AIIMS is advancing AI-based solutions that target conditions like diabetic retinopathy (DR), pulmonary diseases, and skin ailments.
DR, a leading cause of preventable blindness in India, particularly affects rural populations with limited access to specialized care. AIIMS has developed an AI-driven screening tool to detect DR in its early stages, facilitating timely diagnosis and treatment.
Additionally, AI models are being developed to enhance the interpretation of chest X-rays (CXRs), which represent nearly 40 per cent of all medical scans. These AI solutions help radiologists identify urgent cases and detect a range of pulmonological conditions more efficiently, significantly improving the quality of care.
