I like that the ReMarkable Paper Pure has a thicker side bezel, which the pricier Paper Pro and Paper Pro Move don’t have. It’s a great resting place for my thumb to grip and start writing, and it responds to rotation, so you can use it comfortably whether you’re right- or left-handed (the stylus will only attach to the long side without the thick bezel, though, which is a bit of a pain for lefties). It has fast response times and a smooth writing experience that feels incredibly paper-like like previous ReMarkable models, with texture and resistance that makes it feel like writing without feeling sluggish or stiff. ReMarkable says the writing experience from Paper Pro was brought to the device, and both felt similar to writing. Aside from the pen-to-tablet experience, though, the two devices feel very different to use with the difference in weight and size, especially when you’re holding the device to write.

I don’t mind that ReMarkable Paper Pure missed out on a color screen, especially since ReMarkable has two other devices that offer one. I’m disappointed that it doesn’t have a front light, but in daylight, the Paper Pure screen actually looks brighter because it’s designed to be brighter and whiter than ever to look like a piece of paper. ReMarkable says it’s the best white on the market, and it’s a clear improvement over its own lineup. Still, the lack of front lighting can be a bummer if you’re likely to use it in a dark classroom or similar setting.
A big pro for Paper Pure on the color screen models of the ReMarkable, and even the older ReMarkable 2, is battery life. These devices typically had a two-week battery life, but ReMarkable says the Paper Pure will have three weeks. It’s still not quite as much battery life as you’ll get on the Kindle Scribe, but it’s a nice improvement.

Some new remarkable software features are coming along with PaperPure. It’s not just coming to this device, since ReMarkable devices are on the same platform, any ReMarkable device you own or acquire should include these features. There are two main new features: a calendar integration, and convert and share.
