These TVs Are Part of the Roku/TCL Class Action Lawsuit


If Roku or TCL made your TV, listen up: Your set could be involved in a class-action lawsuit. Both TV manufacturers Currently in the middle of a suit.and while it’s too early to know where the case is going or what the potential settlement will be, we do know which TV shows are specifically named.

What is the Roku/TCL lawsuit?

As top class action reportsplaintiff Terry Ellis recently filed a lawsuit in federal court in California. Ellis’ suit claims that Roku and TCL issued software updates that were “repeatedly defective.” According to the suit, the updates rendered some TVs from both Roku and TCL “broken” or otherwise unusable. Another says the updates “materially impair” the functionality of Roku’s devices, and that both companies failed to disclose the problems to consumers. Rather, that Roku and TCL marketed these products as “reliable” smart TVs that “will continue to improve over time… Thanks [ongoing] Automatic software updates.”

The lawsuits claim that Roku and TCL provide no support for customers whose TVs malfunction, despite warranties that claim to cover software defects. Otherwise try to represent a nationwide class action suit with a jury trial, with monetary awards for all involved. I don’t have a Roku or TCL TV, so I can’t personally confirm the issues. However, there are over 300 comments on the Top Class Actions report, with many (if not more) people complaining of similar issues with their Roku TVs. “My TV randomly turns off and sometimes takes several attempts to turn on.” “It doesn’t work unless it’s connected to the internet and then the screens are blank for a lot of stations,” “I just disposed of a 65″ Roku branded TV that went black less than 3 years after purchase.” Many comments simply request inclusion in the class action suit.

As it happens, this case isn’t the only class action lawsuit Rocco is currently facing: Another customer is suing Roku. A new subscription is required to remove and restore a feature from its smart home cameras.

Which TVs are named in the Roku/TCL lawsuit?

The lawsuit charges Roku and TCL with blanket claims on all of their TVs and streaming devices. Instead, it specifically names the following models, which were sold between December 16, 2024 and today:

  • Roku Select Series

  • Roku Plus Series

  • TCL 3 Series Roku TV

  • TCL 4 Series Roku TV

  • TCL 5 Series Roku TV

  • TCL 6 Series Roku TV

Again, it’s too early to know what will happen in this case. But if you bought one of these TVs in that time frame, take note, and keep an eye on the suit as it moves forward.
