KGMU to Launch Pioneering AI Lab to Revolutionize Patient Care and Medical Training, ET HealthWorld

Lucknow: The King George’s Medical University (KGMU) is planning to establish an AI lab to enhance patient care, teaching, and training methodologies.

The lab would be the first of its kind in a govt medical institution in UP. Making this announcement on the second day of the 25th National Conference of the Indian Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IASCON), KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand said that the medical university was in discussion with the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) to facilitate the project.

Prof RK Garg, who heads the research cell at KGMU, highlighted the importance of the integration of modern technology, saying: “We cannot afford to stay behind in this era. The collaboration with IIT-Kanpur is crucial for developing AI models.”

“The proposed AI lab will utilize advanced machine learning models that function similarly to human learning. These models will be trained on various patient data sets, including symptoms and medical imaging, allowing them to differentiate between conditions like tuberculosis and pneumonia based on specific indicators,” he said.

“KGMU will provide essential resources for this initiative, including robust hardware and cloud storage solutions for data management. Training engineers in programming languages such as Python will be a key component of the lab’s development, enabling creation of sophisticated AI models capable of interpreting medical data,” he said.
